Sailing ship for table top games (Saltmarsh DnD)

By JabberwockSource

A model ship designed for use with 28mm table top games. 1" = 5' If you print it full scale the total length is about two feet long. The deck has the same grid pattern as the excellent OpenForge tiles also available on this website. This is the ship /Sea Ghost/ from the old and very fun D&D adventure "The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh". My friends and I are playing 5e and our PCs captured the smuggler ship at the end of the module. I decided that if we're going to sail somewhere I want us to do it in style so I created a model for it. The deck plan of this file is line-for-line from the module. (It may become useful for the upcoming "Saltmarsh" adventure module to be published May '19) I printed all of the pieces without supports but that makes the orientation important. Being such a large model I had to print it in pieces. The hull is three sections; bow. mid, and stern. If you wanted a bigger ship you could print the center section more than once. 1. Hull pieces are printed with the bottom of the ship down. 2. Main mast and bowsprit are printed horizontal to the print bed. 3. Crow's nest and cross pieces are printed vertically, pointing up. Same with the anchor. 4. Capstan printed upside down. 5. The sail needs some care to be taken with the orientation. I cut the "bottom" edge flat so that it has a good surface to sit firmly on the print bed. (My first printing attempt failed because I didn't have the flat spot.) Make sure the flat side is down and it will print without supports. The grooves in the masts are to help hold the string in place. The anchor chain is not 3D printed; I bought it at a store and cut it to length. Finally, I drilled holes in the top corners of the sails and made loops, in case we ever needed to remove the sail. 1/23/16 update Found a great link online for 5th edition D&D sailing ship rules. https://olddungeonmaster.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/5e_nautical_adventures.pdf I have no connection to the autho
